What services do you offer? - Sunrise Peak Psychology and Adventure Therapy offers a combination of traditional "in-clinic" psychology and nature-based "walk and talk" and group therapy in the form of Narrative Walks.
In-clinic therapy is offered within the Work Well Health clinic in Paddington. Nature-based therapy in the form of "walk and talk" and Narrative Walks are located in Toohey Forest Picnic Area (Nathan), Enoggera Reservoir and Shaw Park (Wooloowin) in Brisbane.
How do I schedule an appointment? - After initial enquiry, you will be provided with details on making an appointment by contacting the Work Well Health Centre reception by phone or via the online Sunrise Peak Psychology and Adventure Therapy Client Portal link.
Is there parking at the Work Well Health Centre? - Yes, there is onsite parking however it is limited. There is plentiful parking, and a short walk across the road at Woolworths allows for 3 hours of free parking.
What is the cost of therapy?
General Psychology Sessions
Initial sessions - $250 (MHCP rebates apply)
Subsequent sessions - $230 (MHCP rebates apply)
Walk and Talk - $230 (MHCP rebates apply)
Narrative Walks - Group Therapy - $100 (group MHCP rebates of $47.15 may apply)
Clinical Psychology Sessions
Initial sessions - $270 (MHCP rebates apply)
Subsequent sessions - $250 (MHCP rebates apply)
Walk and Talk - $250 (MHCP rebates apply)
Narrative Walks - Group Therapy - $100 (group MHCP rebates of $47.15 may apply)
Do you accept insurance? - Yes. Hicaps is available when attending in-clinic sessions.
What is the Medicare Rebate? - If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, paediatrician, or psychiatrist, you will be eligible for a rebate from Medicare. Currently, the rebates applicable when seeing a General Psychologist are $96.65 (in-clinic) and $121.35 (nature-based), and for a Clinical Psychologist are $136.35 (in-clinic) and $159.55 (nature-based) through Medicare.
Can I claim Private Health Insurance?
You can claim a percentage of the consultation fee back through your Private Health insurance; however, the rebate amount differs across providers and plans, so we recommend you call your Private Health insurer before your appointment.
Please note that you can only claim one rebate, not from both Medicare and Private Health.
How long are therapy sessions?
In-clinic and walk-and-talk sessions are 50 minutes in duration.
Narrative Walks (Group Therapy) are 6 hours in duration.
How frequent are they? - It is recommended that fortnightly sessions be booked during initial attendance to ensure that you have consistent care. These sessions can be spaced further out as your therapy progresses. It is recommended that approximately six to ten appointments be booked in advance on initial attendance. This is to ensure that your favoured time and day does not book out and to avoid lengthy wait times between sessions.
Is therapy confidential? - Therapy is completely confidential. The only time that anything would be shared with another party would be if there were concerns for your or another person's safety.
What conditions or issues do you treat? - Our practitioners support individuals with a range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, challenges related to neurodiversity, personality disorders, PTSD and more.
Do you offer online therapy or telehealth options? - Yes. If challenges arise with attending the clinic, or if distance is an issue, there is the option to connect via telehealth.
How long does therapy typically last? - The duration of therapy depends on the type of concern that is being treated and will vary from person to person.
What is the cancellation policy? - A strict cancellation policy is enforced due to the demand of psychology. Reminders are sent out with three days' notice via text and email. Cancellation fees apply if notice is given with less than 24 hours' notice (full fee).
Do you provide cognitive assessments or psychological testing? - This is not a service that is currently offered at Sunrise Peak Psychology and Adventure Therapy. However, if it is identified within the therapy process that assessment is required, this can be arranged with a trusted colleague.
What should I expect during my first session? - In the initial session, your therapist will conduct an intake session, which involves asking questions about the reason for support and learning about your background. Information will be shared about the therapy process and what to expect in future sessions. You will also have the opportunity to share your goals for therapy and ask any questions you may have.
Do I need a referral? - No, you do not need a referral to engage in therapy. If you wish to claim the Medicare rebate, a referral and Mental Health Care Plan are required. You can also access a rebate using Private Health; however, you do not need a referral to receive this benefit.
What age groups do you work with? - Karen works with young people, adolescents and adults.
What do I need to bring if I choose Walk and Talk or Narrative Walks therapy? - Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers and a water bottle are required to engage in the nature-based therapy. Other recommended items include a full-brimmed hat, sun-smart shirt, sunscreen and a small backpack.
What if I need help urgently?
Sunrise Peak Psychology and Adventure Therapy and the Work Well Health Centre are not acute services; therefore, the clinic does not deal with matters of emergency or crisis. If you need emergency support, please contact emergency services on 000. Other support services include:
