Basecamp

A 6-Week Emotional Regulation Group for Children and Teens

Basecamp is a foundational therapeutic group designed for children and young people who experience big emotions and are still learning how to manage them.

Many young people struggle with frustration, emotional outbursts, shutting down, impulsive reactions, worry or difficulty calming themselves once upset. Often, they know they are having a hard time, but don’t yet have the understanding or tools to manage those feelings effectively.

Basecamp provides a supportive and engaging environment where young people can begin to better understand emotions, recognise what is happening in their body and brain and learn simple, practical strategies to regulate emotions and respond more calmly.

The group draws on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), emotional regulation strategies and psychoeducation, with a strong focus on helping young people:

  • identify and understand emotions;
  • recognise early signs of overwhelm;
  • develop emotional awareness;
  • build calming and coping strategies;
  • improve frustration tolerance and flexibility; and
  • increase confidence in managing emotions.

This group is designed to provide a gentle introduction to emotional regulation in a safe, supportive and neuroaffirming environment.

Groups are kept intentionally small to support comfort, safety and connection.
