Jacinta Fisher

Psychologist

Limited availability

Hi, I’m Jacinta. I’m a psychologist with a passion for sport, exercise and the outdoors.

I work with young people and adults who are navigating anxiety, perfectionism, low self-esteem, depression, social difficulties, ADHD and challenges with managing emotions. I also work with people experiencing pressure or concerns around sport and performance.

I have a particular interest in eating disorders and disordered eating, including concerns connected to sport and performance. If worries about food, eating or body image are taking up more of your life than you would like, you are welcome to get in touch. You don’t need to have a diagnosis or know exactly how to explain what is happening before making an enquiry.

I am trained in enhanced cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT-E) and work with people aged 12 and over experiencing anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED).

My approach is warm, collaborative and practical. I take time to understand you, what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to be different. We work together to make sense of the difficulties you are experiencing and explore ways to respond that fit your needs and everyday life. Along the way, we check in on what is helpful and adjust our approach when needed.

Depending on your needs and goals, I draw on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). Sessions are available in the clinic and, where appropriate, outdoors through walk and talk therapy.

I hold a Master of Psychology in the field of Sport and Exercise from The University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) from the University of Adelaide. I am also part of Sunrise Peak’s holiday program team.

Outside work, you’ll usually find me playing footy, at the gym, hiking, camping or reading in my hammock. I also enjoy settling in with a good TV series.

I see adolescents and adults at our Ashgrove clinic on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

About Eating Disorder Appointments

Eating-disorder treatment involves weekly sessions for the first three months, alongside regular medical monitoring. Where possible, we arrange the first six weeks of appointments when you book.

For young people under 16, parent or family involvement and support at most sessions is an essential part of treatment. For athletes, involving coaches or relevant team staff may also be helpful and is discussed with you first, with any communication occurring with appropriate consent.

My current eating-disorder service does not include ARFID, pica or unspecified feeding or eating disorders (UFED). Please contact reception before booking an eating-disorder appointment so we can discuss suitability and current availability.

To enquire about an appointment, please use the Book Now button below or contact reception to discuss whether I am the right fit for you.
